Legalization of Marijuana

Marijuana is not bad for like cigarettes and alcohol. The US war on drugs places great importance on arresting people for smoking marijuana. Since 1990, nearly 5.9 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana charges, which is a larger number than the entire populations of Alaska, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming combined. In the year 2000, state and local law enforcement had arrested 734,498 people for marijuana violations alone. This is an increase of 800 percent since 1980, and is the highest ever documented.

Like most Americans, people who smoke marijuana also pay their taxes, love and support their families, and work hard to improve life for their kids. Suddenly they are arrested, jailed, and treated like criminals solely because of choice to smoke marijuana. State agencies regularly step in and declare that a child of marijuana smokers to be in great danger, and the outcome is many children are placed into foster homes. This causes tremendous pain, suffering and financial problems for millions of American families. It also creates distrust and disrespect for the law and for the criminal justice system. Responsible marijuana smokers are no threat or danger to their children or America, and there is no reason to treat them like they are criminals, or to take their children away from them. As a society we need to discover ways to discourage personal conduct of all kinds that is abusive or dangerous to others. Responsible marijuana smokers are not the problem in America and it is time to bring to an end to arresting them.Marijuana does not cause serious health problems like those caused by tobacco or alcohol such as strong addiction, cancer, heart problems, birth defects, emphysema, and liver damage. There are many myths about marijuana including; marijuana contains over 400 chemicals, thus proving that it is dangerous. Rat poison contains only 30 chemicals, which proves that it is not quantity, it is quality. Overdosing and dying from smoking marijuana is impossible.

In the history of the entire world, there has never been a single human death due to a health dilemma caused by marijuana. The legalization of marijuana would make life for all Americans better.

Thesis Statement

Drug users exercise free will when they chose to use drugs; a person has the right to give up his or her own freedom. A government does not have the right to dictate them. No drug eliminates free will.

Cause and Effect

A cause is simply a situation or event that happens. The effect is the change that takes place after the cause has happened. Cause and effect is much like dominoes. One sets up the dominoes in a line and they push the first dominoe. This simple little push of the first dominoe represents the cause. The first dominoe falls into the second, which then falls into the third, and so on. This represents the effect.

There are many cause and effect situations in life. One situation that falls into that catagory is rumors. Rumors are all around us. One person hears something about someone and tells someone else. That person goes and tells others which it then spreads around the whole school. Let's take a look at what the cause and effect of this situation are. The cause could be two people getting in a fight which makies them very angry with eachother. One of the persons wants to "get even" with the other so he/she tells a friend a lie about them. Now lets take a look at the effect. In this situation the effect is a much longer process then the cause. The effect is once that person gets told the lie, he/she tells others and soon it is all around the school.

There are many different Cause and effect situations in life. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. Rumors would fall into the "bad" cause and effect catagory. Everything event, or cause, that takes place has a effect. There is not one situation in life that is not cause and effect.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is more than just thinking. You have to think about many different things. It's much more important than just regular thinking. thinking is just talking to yourself silently. Critical thinking means you have to take many things into consideration.

For example; Let's say you want to go to college, but you don't know where to go, so you think about where you want to go. But choosing a college is much more important than that. You need to take a lot of things into consideration such as; Tuition. You need to figure out if you can afford it or if it offers any scholarships. You also need to take the location into consideration. Maybe you want to go one thousand miles away or maybe you want to stay within one hundred miles from home. Does the college you are applying to offer a major that you want? Does the college have all the extra curricular activites that you want? Do you have to live on campus the first year? You have to ask yourself many questions before you come up with the decision you are going to make. These are all things you need to think about. You need to evaluate all the information you have and apply it to what you want.

Critical Thinking is much more complex than regular thinking. It is thinking in depth about something. It's the most important thing in order to make the right decisions.
